Discoverer: Shallow Water DP Record–Record-breaking 285m FS-2 well
On 2nd October 2017, after a suitable risk assessment of the need for mooring equipment, the Maersk Discoverer team completed the Giza Fayoum well five days ahead of schedule, drilling in just 285 metres of water. The well was the shallowest water drilling operation in DP mode ever conducted for both Maersk Drilling and BP and delivered significant cost savings, by removing the need for a mooring spread.
