WHAT DOES THE WORK CONSIST OF?

The Rig Floor Mechanic supervises the drilling equipment on board and carries out the necessary maintenance work on the equipment. Additionally, the Rig Floor Mechanic assists with on the job training of Floorhands and Roustabouts regarding maintenance work on hydraulic and other drilling equipment.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW TO HOLD THE POSITION?

In order to hold this position, you must have the following:
- You need to be certified mechanic
- You should have experience with equipment similar to the equipment onboard.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

You need to be a certified mechanic. After completing training, you will typically start your career offshore in a position as Floorhand or Roustabout, before progressing to Rig Floor Mechanic.

Hydraulic Mechanic

WHAT DOES THE WORK CONSIST OF?

The Hydraulic Mechanic is responsible for carrying out all supervision of the drilling equipment on board and carrying out all necessary maintenance on hydraulic equipment. He/she also assists in the training of the Roustabouts and Floorhands regarding maintenance work on hydraulic and other drilling equipment.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW TO HOLD THE POSITION?

In order to hold this position, you must have the following:
- Preferably Ships Technician or STCW III/1 certificate of competency class 3 or 4, or industry approved apprenticeship
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic circuits, components and principles of fluid power.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

You need to be certified in the maintenance of hydraulic and drilling equipment. You will often start your offshore career in a position as Roughneck, Floorhand or Roustabout, and progress from there.
