WHAT DOES THE WORK CONSIST OF?

The Maintenance Engineer is a training position with a view to moving up to Technical Section Leader. He/she carries out the following tasks: maintaining equipment, technical systems and structures to the standards laid down in applicable rules and regulations for the maintenance department.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW TO HOLD THE POSITION?

In order to hold this position, you must have a certificate of competency as Marine Engineer, STCW III/2 (unlimited).

HOW DO I GET THERE?

You come from the maritime industry where you have acquired your Chief Engineer certificate. No offshore experience is required for this position. Provided that you have the certificate, you can also progress from the position of Engine Room Responsible.

Technical Section Leader (Chief Engineer)

WHAT DOES THE WORK CONSIST OF?

The Technical Section Leader is the head of the Maintenance section of the rig and reports directly to the OIM. He/she is the overall person responsible for maintaining equipment, technical systems and structures to the standards laid down in applicable rules and regulations. He/she is also responsible for keeping the OIM and Drilling Section Leader updated on the condition of the machinery and equipment, ordering parts, record keeping and the appraisal of maintenance personnel.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW TO HOLD THE POSITION?

In order to hold this position, you must have a certificate of competency as Marine Engineer, STCW III/2 (unlimited).

HOW DO I GET THERE?

After some time in a Maintenance Engineer position where you have gained offshore experience and proven your competencies, you can progress to Technical Section Leader.
