Floorhand (Roughneck)
The Floorhand is responsible for pipe handling, casing and drilling equipment on the drill floor as well as carrying out maintenance on the equipment. The Floorhand also makes and breaks rotary connections using rig tongs, handles tubular goods, elevators and slips, and operates semi-automated pipe-handling machines. Additionally, the Floorhand participates in the daily cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance work on the drill floor and in the shale shaker room.
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW TO HOLD THE POSITION?
In order to hold this position, you must have experience as Roustabout and a basic school education as required by local legislation.
HOW DO I GET THERE?
You typically start your offshore career as Roustabout and progress to Floorhand. In some areas, you can start directly as Floorhand if you have basic drilling and slinging education.
