Maersk Drilling's two-year Rig Manager Trainee Programme is aimed at competitive professionals who welcome major responsibilities and the opportunity to build a career in a fast-paced global environment. The programme is a gateway to a challenging international career as a rig manager (an onshore position), providing you with excellent opportunities to advance rapidly to high-level positions at our offices across the world.
As a rig manager, your objectives will be to:
- Manage the overall rig operation on one of our offshore units
- Be responsible for the development of the crew on board
- Maintain the health and safety environment and address specific on-site challenges
- Supervise all maintenance, logistics and procurement processes
Fast track programme
The programme combines theoretical and on-the-job training. You will get familiarised with all aspects of the operations on a rig and get broad exposure to the challenges and responsibilities of a rig manager. After course completion, you will start as an assistant rig manager, working under the direct supervision of an experienced rig manager in one of our shorebases.
Training Modules
The trainee programme is designed as a toolbox with three module, so that your programme can be tailored based on your personal background.
Below is an overview of the training modules:
Module 1: Introduction in Copenhagen
You will receive an introduction to the programme and to Maersk Drilling's HQ structure, work processes and systems. You will gain insights into the daily administration of our global drilling activities. Among other things, you will learn to work with standard reports, audits and technical maintenance programmes. You will also go through the obligatory courses prior to rotating into the rig team.
Module 2: First rotation as part of the rig team
Within the first few weeks of the programme, you will be assigned to the rig team working at a specific location. During your rotation, you will work under the supervision of the local rig manager and be introduced to the rig and related activities. Onshore work will be combined with offshore visits and training.
Module 3: Second rotation as part of the rig team
At the end of your first rotation, you will be assigned to another rig team for your second rotation. It is essential for your career success that you gain experience of working with different rig types at various locations - and equally important that you expand your professional network.
Module 4: Third rotation - optional
Depending on the business situation and length of the first two rotations, you may be exposed to the third rotation. It will either be another assignment at one of our rig teams or at Egyptian Drilling Company - a joint venture between A.P. Moller - Maersk and Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation.
