Maersk Drilling has operated jack-up drilling rigs for more than 35 years in the North Sea as well as in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Australia, the Mediterranean and the Gulf of Mexico.

Maersk Drilling is part of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group - a worldwide organisation with 110,000 employees and offices in 125 countries, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. In addition to owning one of the world's largest shipping companies, comprising more than 500 container vessels, the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group is involved in a wide range of activities within the energy, shipbuilding, retail and manufacturing industries. The company is listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.

Maersk Drilling is experienced in adapting to local conditions and operate independent offices worldwide.

  • Egyptian Drilling Company (EDC) is a joint venture between Maersk Drilling and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation. It owns and operates a fleet of more than 55 land rigs and five jack-up rigs in the Middle East.
  • Our advanced deepwater development semi-submersibles are designed for operations in the Gulf of Mexico, Australia and Angola.
  • We are a leading drilling contractor in Venezuela operating a fleet of cantilevered drilling barges.

History:

  • 1972: Maersk Drilling is established and acquires their first semi-sub, ZEPHYR I.
  • 1975: Maersk Drilling's first newbuilding, MÆRSK EXPLORER, is built. It is the largest jack-up the world has ever seen.
  • 1976: Maersk Drilling forms a joint venture with EGPC to establish the Egyptian Drilling Company.
  • 1995: Maersk Drilling enters the FPSO market and changes its name to Maersk Contractors.
  • 2003/2004: Maersk Contractors takes delivery of the world's largest jack-up rigs, the sister rigs "MÆRSK INNOVATOR" and "MÆRSK INSPIRER".
  • 2007: Maersk Contractors takes delivery of MAERSK COMPLETER, the first rig in a newbuilding programme of nine jack-ups and semi-subs to be delivered between 2007 and 2010.
  • 2008: Maersk Contractors changes its name and splits into two businesses: Maersk Drilling and Maersk FPSOs.
